10/05/2010 Tecmer Sponsors Up & Coming Freeskier, Chris Laker

Tecmer recently joined the team supporting the competition career of up and coming freeskier, Chris Laker of Cincinnati, OH. The Oak Hills High School senior recently placed fourth in the Slopestyle competition of the prominent Volkl New Zealand Freeski Open, right behind some seasoned X-games pros.

Based on the Wikipedia definition, Freeskiing, also known as Newschool skiing is a type of alpine skiing which involves advanced tricks, jumps, and terrain park features, such as rails, boxes, jibs, or other obstacles. This form of skiing resulted from a combination of the growth in popularity of snowboarding as well as the progression of Freestyle skiing. "Newschoolers", or those who specifically ski in this style (as opposed to traditional freestylers, big mountain skiers, racers, etc.) are often found in terrain parks, which are designed specifically for tricks.

"This was a tremendous opportunity for us to do something unique." says Tecmer's, HR & Communications Manager, Rosa Drake-Tate. "At first glance, you can't help but get excited watching his highlight reel and revel in what he does on ski's. As soon as we saw it, we knew we had to help him out. Plus, it gave us ALL tremendous street-cred with our kids." Tom Drake, President of Tecmer says, "This was a great opportunity for us to sponsor a kid trying to fulfill his dreams. I've watched the X-games before and been awed at what they're able to do – so I was in right from the start. We were very excited about his most recent competition finish and only wish him the best."
